Economies of scope exist when production costs of multiple products and parts are less than their production costs separately, which this concept is significant in order to assess the performance of banks, hospitals, universities, and so on. Generally, economies of scope are important for evaluating the efficiency of multi-product firms. In this paper, after providing the precise definition of economies of scope, several existing non-parametric methods to examine the concept of economies of scope are reviewed. Actually, approaches based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) available in the literature are presented to study economies of scope.
